The full cheek is an ideal bit for young or very hot horses who may not understand steering. The straight pieces on the cheekpiece are slightly bent outwards so that they cannot come into contact with the side of the horse's head. It is important that you put the bit in the mouth with the straight pieces facing outwards so that they can't cause wounds. The Dr. Bristol mouthpiece is a double-jointed mouthpiece with a flat centre piece.
