Suitable for horses with little space in the mouth e.g. thoroughbred types or older horses (due to change in tooth alignment), horses with large tongues and, in particular, ones sensitive to pressure points on the tongue.
The increased pressure from using the second rein on the gag bit causes the bit to rotate and be pulled upwards in the mouth. This results in a stronger effect. Very useful with horses that tend to lean on the bit. Likewise also useful on horses for achieving increased elevation.
